In 1966, the first issue of Handloader magazine came off the presses, and the first magazine dedicated to handloading was born. Dave Wolfe had a vision and it paid off. Handloader magazine was on the way to a successful start.
Just three years later in 1969, Rifle magazine was born. Dave wanted a magazine dedicated specifically to rifles. This meant we would cover some handloading for rifles, shooting rifles at the range for accuracy, and hunting with rifles. Over the years we have covered everything from rimfires to big bores and from time to time, air rifles.
Fifty years is a long time, and a lot has changed over the decades. As we did for Handloader, we thought it would be fun for our readers to see the first issue of Rifle. It has been reprinted in its entirety and placed in the center of this issue, including a 1966 subscription ad that we will honor but at current prices. Unfortunately we could not include it online.
We owe those successes to our loyal readership. Currently Rifle is read by over 100,000 people worldwide with a dedicated subscriber base. As owner and publisher of the finest gun magazines in the world, I want to personally thank our loyal readers. I promise to keep Rifle magazine committed to excellent coverage of sporting and hobby rifles. When you call us, you will always be greeted with a friendly voice, not a machine. Thank you for your support!
